New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Monday dismissed appeals challenging the Madras High Court’s order directing a CBI probe into alleged irregularities in transformer tenders floated during the tenure of former Tamil Nadu Electricity Minister V Senthil Balaji.
A Bench comprising Justice Vikram Nath and Justice Sandeep Mehta refused to interfere with the Madras High Court’s direction for a Central Bureau of Investigation inquiry into the alleged ₹397 crore scam related to the procurement of transformer tenders in the Tamil Nadu Electricity Department.
The Apex Court verdict clears the way for the CBI to continue its investigation into the alleged financial irregularities and suspected corruption in the tender process during Senthil Balaji’s tenure as Electricity Minister in the Tamil Nadu government.
The case pertains to allegations of large-scale irregularities and procedural violations in awarding transformer procurement contracts, causing an alleged loss of hundreds of crores to the state exchequer.
