Worship of Skandamata Brings Wisdom and Prosperity
New Delhi: On the fifth day of Chaitra Navratri, the Skandamata form of Goddess Durga is worshipped. This form symbolizes motherhood, compassion, and power. Lord Kartikeya, known as the commander of the gods, sits in the lap of Goddess Skandamata. It is believed that worshipping her with proper rituals on this day bestows the happiness of children, knowledge, and success in life.
Mother Skandamata has four arms and rides a lion. She holds lotus flowers in her hands, and in one hand, she holds her son, Kartikeya, in her lap. This form conveys the message of love, protection, and strength. Worshiping the Goddess removes obstacles to childbearing and brings happiness and prosperity to the family.
According to mythology, a demon named Tarakasura had a boon that he could only be killed by Lord Shiva's son. Following this, Goddess Parvati assumed the form of Skandamata and prepared Lord Kartikeya for battle. With the blessings of the Mother Goddess, Kartikeya killed Tarakasura and freed the gods from his terror. Because of this story, Mother Skandamata is considered the goddess of power and protection.
