Goddess Katyayani, a symbol of strength and courage
New Delhi: On the sixth day of Chaitra Navratri, Maa Katyayani, the sixth form of Goddess Durga, is worshipped. According to religious beliefs, Maa Katyayani symbolizes strength, courage, and valor. Her worship grants devotees victory over enemies and removes obstacles in life. In the Braj region, Maa Katyayani is especially revered as the presiding deity.
Maa Katyayani is a four-armed goddess riding a lion. She holds a sword and a lotus flower in one hand, while the other two hold the abhaya and varada mudras. Her radiance is believed to remove all suffering from her devotees, and her grace brings positive energy into their lives.
According to legend, Maa Katyayani was born as a result of Rishi Katyayan's rigorous penance. When the gods were troubled by the atrocities of Mahishasura, the goddess was born from the radiance of Brahma, Vishnu, and Mahesh. Maharishi Katyayana was the first to worship her, hence her name Katyayani.
It is believed that those facing delays in marriage or marital problems should worship Goddess Katyayani. Her blessings remove all obstacles related to marriage and lead to a happy married life.
Mother Katyayani is very fond of honey and yellow-colored offerings. Devotees can offer her gram flour laddus or saffron rice. Offering yellow and red flowers to the Goddess is considered auspicious, especially jasmine flowers.
On this day, bathe in the morning, wear yellow clothes, and take a vow to worship. Install the idol of Goddess Katyayani, meditate on her, and offer kumkum (vermilion), rice grains, turmeric, and sandalwood. Light incense sticks and lamps, chant Devi mantras, and recite the sixth chapter of Durga Saptashati. Finally, perform aarti and pray for the happiness and prosperity of your family.
This day of Chaitra Navratri holds special significance for devotees. Worship performed with true faith and devotion pleases Goddess Katyayani, who blesses her devotees with happiness, peace, and prosperity in their lives.
