New Delhi: Australia's batsman Tim David has scored a charismatic century in a record-breaking performance during the T20 International match against West Indies.
He scored his century in only 37 balls and broke the record to become the fastest Australian batsman to score a century in T20 International. It is also the first century of Tim David's international career, and he finished it with a bang, surprising all cricket enthusiasts.
Tim David's performance had 6 fours and 11 skyscraper sixes. He achieved this century at a strike rate of 275.68, which is a highly explosive performance with regards to T20 cricket. Previously, the record for the fastest century in T20 for Australia was held by Josh Inglis, having scored a century in 43 balls, but Tim David broke the record by playing 6 balls lesser.
If we discuss the quickest century against Test-playing nations at the international level, then this century of Tim David is the third quickest one. Before, David Miller and Rohit Sharma had scored centuries in 35-35 balls, and just recently Abhishek Sharma also scored a century in 37 balls.
Discussing the match, Australia captain Mitchell Marsh won the toss and opted to bowl first. West Indies, having batted first, managed 214 runs in 20 overs for the loss of 4 wickets. Shai Hope, the captain, made an excellent century, and Brandon King made a handy 62. The West Indies innings was extremely solid to start with; their first wicket was lost at 125 runs. It then appeared that Marsh's decision to bowl might turn out to be wrong.
But from here, once Australia began batting, Tim David completely flipped the fate of the match one-sidedly. Australia scored the target of 215 runs on the first delivery of the 17th over and won with 6 wickets in hand. With this victory, Australia has attained an unbeatable 3-0 lead in the five-match series. Now there remain two matches of the series, but Australia has already won the series.
In this way, this century of Tim David is not only his personal achievement but also became the reason for a big victory for the Australian team. This innings will be remembered for a long time in cricket history.
