Baramulla: This buzzling distirct of Jammu and Kashmir witnessed a celebration of youth energy, sporting passion and grassroots talent on Saturday as the second District Pittu Championship concluded after three days of intense competition featuring 96 young athletes from across the district.
Organised by the District Baramulla Pittu Association (DBPA), the championship was held from September 24 to 26 at Budding Bloom Experimental School, Khawaja Bagh, Baramulla. The event brought together 16 teams, including eight boys’ teams and eight girls’ teams, providing a competitive platform for young players to showcase their skills and sporting abilities.
Supported by the Pittu Association of Jammu and Kashmir and Gaash Academy Baramulla, along with Modern Sweet Baramulla, the championship focused on strengthening grassroots sports participation and encouraging youngsters to take part in traditional sporting activities.
The tournament reflected the growing interest among students and local clubs towards Pittu, a traditional outdoor game known for its combination of speed, strategy, agility and teamwork.
# Young Athletes Turn Baramulla Into Sporting Arena
The three-day championship witnessed participation from 48 boys and 48 girls competing for championship honours.
Beyond winning trophies, the tournament gave young athletes valuable match experience and exposure to organised competition. Players developed key sporting qualities including coordination, discipline, decision-making ability, teamwork and mental strength.
For many participants, the championship became a stepping stone to build confidence, understand competitive pressure and develop the mindset required for higher levels of sport.

The championship was attended by Lieutenant Colonel Angad Anthony Malik as Chief Guest, while Mohammad Iqbal Lone, Chairman of Budding Bloom Experimental School, Baramulla, attended as Second Chief Guest.
Tariq Ahmad Chalkoo, Vice Principal of Government Degree College Baramulla, Abdul Baseer, Principal of Budding Bloom Experimental School, and Sheikh Mudasir attended the event as Guests of Honour.
Lt Col Angad Anthony Malik appreciated the efforts of the District Baramulla Pittu Association for creating an organised platform where young athletes could compete and improve their skills.
He highlighted the importance of sports in building physical fitness, discipline, leadership qualities, teamwork and resilience among the younger generation.
# Education Leaders Highlight Importance Of Sports
Tariq Ahmad Chalkoo praised the initiative for bringing students and young athletes together through a structured sporting competition.
He emphasised that regular participation in competitive events helps students develop confidence, leadership abilities and a healthy competitive mindset.
Abdul Baseer, Principal of Budding Bloom Experimental School, appreciated the organisers for promoting sports alongside academics and creating opportunities for students to participate in meaningful sporting activities.
He also acknowledged the efforts of players, officials and organisers in maintaining a disciplined and professional tournament environment.
# We Tech International School And Budding Bloom Win Titles
The championship witnessed exciting contests in both boys’ and girls’ categories.
In the boys’ category, We Tech International School, Wagoora, emerged as champions and secured the winners’ trophy. Smart School System, Sopore, finished as runners-up after a strong tournament performance.
In the girls’ category, Budding Bloom Experimental School, Khawaja Bagh, Baramulla, claimed the championship title, while Elite Pittu Club Baramulla secured the runners-up position.
The results reflected the competitive spirit among participating teams and the increasing involvement of schools and clubs in developing young sporting talent.
# Smooth Conduct Of Three-Day Championship
The matches were officiated by Ms Snober, Mr Mannat, Mr Ashiq Hussain, Mr Asif and Mr Aiman Makdoomi.
Their coordination ensured fair play, proper match management and smooth execution throughout the championship.
The tournament was organised under the supervision of the District Baramulla Pittu Association, with General Secretary Shaheen Jan managing coordination between teams, officials and supporting institutions.
