While Mithun Manhas never represented India in international cricket, he is a highly respected figure in domestic cricket. He made his first-class cricket debut for Delhi in the 1997/98 season and soon became a key player in the team's middle order.
His biggest achievement came in the 2007/08 Ranji Trophy season when he played a crucial role in helping Delhi win the title after a 16-year drought. In a career spanning almost two decades, he scored 9714 runs in 157 first-class matches, including 27 centuries and 49 half-centuries. He later represented Jammu & Kashmir and played his last match in 2016.
Manhas also played in the IPL, representing franchises like Delhi Daredevils, Pune Warriors India, and Chennai Super Kings. After retiring from cricket, he turned to coaching and became the head coach of the Delhi Ranji Trophy team in 2018. He later worked with Punjab Kings and Royal Challengers Bangalore. Recently, he was the assistant batting coach of Gujarat Titans.
The selection of the BCCI president is often influenced by political considerations. According to a report by Cricbuzz, Manhas's name was finalized after meetings between senior BCCI officials and ruling BJP leaders in Delhi. The matter was also discussed at the residence of Home Minister Amit Shah.
If Mithun Manhas officially becomes the BCCI president, it will be the first time that a former Ranji Trophy star and experienced domestic cricketer from Delhi will hold this position. The BCCI is considered one of the most powerful cricket boards in the world, so Manhas' responsibilities will be very significant. His current roles and responsibilities are as follows:
Currently, Mithun Manhas serves as the administrator of the Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA) and plays an active role in domestic cricket.
