Houston: Cristiano Ronaldo added another historic chapter to his legendary career as Portugal registered a dominant 5-0 win over Uzbekistan in their FIFA World Cup 2026 Group K clash at Houston Stadium on Tuesday.

Ronaldo Ends Goal Drought In Style

The 41-year-old opened his goal-scoring account in the ongoing World Cup with a sharp close-range finish in the sixth minute. The move began with João Cancelo’s cross from the right, and Ronaldo timed his run perfectly before finding the back of the net.

It was a crucial moment for the Portuguese captain, who had failed to score in Portugal’s opening 1-1 draw against DR Congo. The strike also ended his long goalless run in major tournaments, including the World Cup and the European Championship.

First Player To Score In Six World Cups

With his goal against Uzbekistan, Ronaldo became the first footballer to score in six different FIFA World Cup editions. He had previously scored in 2006, 2010, 2014, 2018 and 2022 before extending the record in 2026.

The achievement puts him ahead in one of football’s most elite scoring records and adds to his already unmatched international legacy. Ronaldo also scored again in the 39th minute, completing a brace and helping Portugal take full control of the match.

Portugal Bounce Back Strongly

Portugal, who had drawn their opening match against DR Congo, responded with a commanding performance. Ronaldo’s brace, along with goals from Nuno Mendes, Rafael Leão and an own goal by Abduvohid Nematov, sealed a comfortable win for Roberto Martínez’s side.

The result gives Portugal a major boost in Group K as they look to strengthen their qualification hopes for the knockout stage.

Age No Barrier For Ronaldo

Ronaldo’s brace also underlined his extraordinary longevity. At 41, he continues to deliver on the biggest stage, becoming one of the rare players to score at a World Cup after turning 40.

The Portuguese icon now has another milestone to his name, proving once again why he remains one of football’s greatest big-match players.
