New Delhi: England's Harry Brook has reclaimed the No.1 position in the ICC Men's Test Batting Rankings, ending Joe Root's reign at the summit. The latest rankings update saw Brook move ahead after a productive outing in England's opening Test against New Zealand.
Brook scored a valuable half-century in the first innings before being dismissed for a duck in the second. Despite the mixed returns, his performance was enough to help him regain the top spot for the first time since 2024.
Former No.1 batter Joe Root dropped two places in the rankings after struggling in both innings of the same Test match. Root managed scores of just one and eight, leading to a significant points loss.
The England veteran now trails both Brook and Australia's Travis Head in the updated rankings, marking a notable shift at the top of the Test batting charts.
India captain Shubman Gill was among the biggest gainers in the latest rankings. His century against Afghanistan helped him climb two places to eighth position.
Gill's rise has made him India's highest-ranked Test batter, moving ahead of Yashasvi Jaiswal, who slipped one place after a modest performance in the match.
India all-rounder Washington Sundar also enjoyed a strong rise across multiple categories following an impressive all-round display. He improved his rankings among batters, bowlers and all-rounders after contributing significantly in the Afghanistan Test.
Meanwhile, Rajasthan's Manav Suthar entered the top 100 all-rounders following a memorable debut. His six-wicket haul and useful lower-order runs earned him the Player of the Match award and boosted his standing in both bowling and all-rounder rankings.
England pacer Gus Atkinson climbed into the top 10 Test bowlers after his five-wicket performance against New Zealand. In ODI rankings, Pakistan's Abrar Ahmed and Shaheen Shah Afridi also made notable gains following their successful series against Australia.
