Kotak Defends Gambhir, Calls Critics’ Agenda ‘Unfair
Guwahati: Indian cricket team batting coach Sitanshu Kotak has supported head coach Gautam Gambhir in the controversy surrounding the Kolkata pitch. The pitch controversy began after India lost the first Test against South Africa at Eden Gardens by 30 runs. Following the match, Gambhir defended the pitch in a press conference, stating that it was the pitch the Indian team had requested.
Many cricketing luminaries questioned Gambhir's statement. Sitanshu Kotak clarified that Gambhir made this statement to protect the pitch curators from backlash. According to Kotak, "Gautam took the blame because he didn't want the curators to take the blame. In India, we rely on spin and typically expect matches to last four to four and a half days. Fast bowlers are in play on the first and second days."

Kotak explained that the Eden Gardens pitch deteriorated sooner than expected. He said, "The pitch started breaking down after the first day. Even the curator didn't want this. Spin was expected, but we didn't get that much. Batting was extremely challenging, especially on the first day and the morning of the second day."
Kotak also highlighted the technical aspects of batting on a turning track. He emphasized the importance of footwork and batsman intent. Kotak said, "Your footwork must be strong on such a wicket. If you hit the right length, no bowler can trouble you. Overly defensive play can also get you out because the bowler keeps hitting the same area."
Gill and Sharma thrashed, but Gautam Gambhir left no opportunity to insult and mock coward Pakistan
Sityanshu Kotak openly supported Gambhir in this controversy. He said, "People are only talking about Gautam Gambhir. No one is looking at what the batsman did or what the batting coach could have done better. Every time we lose, everything comes down to Gambhir. Maybe some people have their own agenda, which is very bad."
Kotak also clarified that the team's defeat wasn't solely dependent on the pitch, but that technical strategy, footwork, and mental preparation also played a significant role. According to him, the Indian team now needs to focus on these aspects to perform better in the upcoming matches.
