New chapter begins in BCCI leadership, Mithun Manhas appointed as President

Mithun Manhas becomes new BCCI President, replacing Roger Binny. The former Delhi and IPL player is the first from Jammu & Kashmir to head Indian cricket’s top body.

Mumbai: Former Delhi captain Mithun Manhas has become the new president of the BCCI. The AGM meeting was held at the BCCI headquarters at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Mithun has been given the top post.

Rajiv Shukla and Devjit Saikia have also been re-elected to their respective positions. Meanwhile, a new treasurer has also been appointed. The Board of Control for Cricket in India has got some new faces. Mithun has now become the new president of the BCCI and will take charge of the management of Indian cricket.

Changes in Other Positions

Other office bearers were also appointed during the AGM. Rajeev Shukla will continue as vice-president, while Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) president Raghuram Bhat will be the new treasurer. Devjit Saikia will continue as secretary, and Prabhtej Bhatia has been appointed joint secretary.

An Illustrious Cricket Career

  • Manhas made his first-class debut in the 1997-98 season.
  • He played 157 first-class matches and scored 9,714 runs.
  • This included 27 centuries and 49 half-centuries.
  • In addition, he also played 130 List A and 91 T20 matches.

Who is Mithun Manhas?

Manhas was nominated by the Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA), where he served as administrator. He made his first-class debut in the 1997/98 season. He also represented India's Under-19 and A teams. Despite his impressive record in first-class cricket, he was not included in the senior team. At that time, the Indian team already included players like Sourav Ganguly, VVS Laxman, Sachin Tendulkar, and Rahul Dravid.

Became a coach after retirement. Entered coaching in 2017 after retirement. Joined IPL franchises Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings XI) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) as support staff. After this, he was on the coaching staff of Gujarat Titans in the IPL.

Manhas, who was a director of the Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association, became the Director of Cricket Operations at the Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA) in 2013. He contributed to strengthening the Jammu and Kashmir cricket structure and also worked on preparing players for domestic cricket.
