Pranavi Urs Creates History, Becomes First Indian Woman to Win Asian Games Golf Gold

Aichi-Nagoya: Indian golfer Pranavi Urs scripted a historic moment at the 2026 Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya by winning the women’s individual golf gold medal, becoming the first Indian woman to achieve the feat in the Asian Games individual golf event.

India also secured silver in the women’s team competition.

Urs Holds Her Nerve in Final Round

The 23-year-old golfer from Mysuru entered the final round with a three-shot lead after producing a four-under 66 in the third round. Her strong performance had taken her total to 15-under 195 after 54 holes, putting her ahead of Singapore’s Shannon Tan and China’s Yin Ruoning.

Pranavi had maintained remarkable consistency throughout the competition, carding rounds of 66, 63 and 66 before the final round. Her third-round card featured five birdies and only one bogey, giving her a significant advantage heading into the final day.

India Adds Team Silver

Pranavi’s individual performance also helped India remain firmly in medal contention in the women’s team event. The Indian team featured Pranavi Urs alongside Aditi Ashok and Diksha Dagar.

After three rounds, India stood second behind China in the team standings, with the team score calculated using the two best scores from each round. India had 409 strokes compared with China’s 405.

A New Chapter for Indian Women’s Golf

The gold marks a significant milestone for Indian golf at the Asian Games. Pranavi entered the tournament as a Games debutant and quickly emerged as the leading Indian contender in the individual competition.

Her achievement comes after Aditi Ashok had also held the 54-hole lead at the previous Asian Games in Hangzhou, where she eventually finished with silver. This time, Pranavi converted her strong position into gold and added another major achievement to India’s golf campaign.
