Mumbai: Indian cricketer Prithvi Shaw is once again in headlines. This is not for his performance but for old controversy, which is related to social media influencer Sapna Gill. A Mumbai court recently fined him ₹100 for failing to respond to a legal notice related to the case.
The Dindoshi Sessions Court expressed its frustration with Shaw for not replying to the court notice issued earlier on 9 September. He was supposed to submit his response by June 13, 2025, but didn’t comply. So, the court fine of ₹100 on him and granted him one last opportunity to respond of plea.

The incident took place in a hotel in Mumbai in February 2023. Sapna Gill had expressed her desire to take a selfie with Prithvi Shaw. However, there is no precise information available about how this request escalated into a controversy. But the matter certainly gained considerable attention.
A video clip of the argument was viral on social media. Following the incident, Sapna Gill attempted to file a complaint with the police, but no FIR was registered. She eventually approached the magistrate court for further action.

While the court case has brought Prithvi Shaw back into the public eye, his cricketing journey has hit a rough patch. The 23-year-old cricketer hasn’t played for India since 2021 and continues to be overlooked for selection in all formats. Also, his name was missing from the list of sold players in the IPL 2025 auction.
Despite the recent setbacks, Shaw’s early cricket career was full of promise. He has represented India in 5 Test matches, scoring 339 runs, including a century. In ODIs, Shaw has played 6 matches and scored 189 runs at an average of 31.50. He played only one match in T20I, in which he didn’t get a chance to bat.

However, poor performances and off-field controversies have overshadowed his talent. Due to mounting pressure and fewer opportunities, Shaw's future in top-level cricket remains uncertain.
