Hyderabad: India’s ace shuttler and two-time Olympic medallist PV Sindhu has decided to withdraw from all remaining tournaments in the 2025 season to focus on recovery from a lingering foot injury. The decision, announced through an official statement on Monday, comes after detailed consultations with her medical team and fitness experts.

Sindhu revealed that the injury, sustained ahead of the European leg of the BWF Tour, has not healed completely despite ongoing rehabilitation. “After consulting closely with my team and with guidance from Dr Dinshaw Pardiwala, we felt it was best for me to withdraw from all remaining events this year,” said the 30-year-old champion.

A Champion’s Tough Decision

Known for her grit and discipline, Sindhu admitted that stepping away was not easy. “Injuries are an inseparable part of every athlete’s journey. They test your patience and resilience but also spark the fire to come back stronger,” she said.

The 2019 World Champion and Commonwealth Games gold medallist has been working under the supervision of Dr Wayne Lombard, with assistance from Nisha Rawat, Chetna, and her coach Irwansyah Adi Pratama. “I am surrounded by a team that gives me strength every day. Their belief in me fuels my own,” she added.

A Challenging Year After Paris Setback

Sindhu’s 2025 season has been far from ideal. Following an early exit at the Paris Games, she has endured multiple first- and second-round defeats on the international circuit. Her best performances this season were quarterfinal finishes at the India Open Super 750, World Championships, and China Masters Super 750.

While she came close to a major title at the Malaysia Masters last year, finishing runner-up, her only victory in recent times was at the Syed Modi International Super 300 in December 2024.

Decision taken after consulting top medical experts, including Dr Pardiwala.

The Journey of a Sporting Icon

PV Sindhu remains one of India’s most decorated athletes. With two Olympic medals, a World Championship gold, and multiple BWF titles, she has inspired an entire generation of badminton players. Her consistency and fighting spirit have made her a global ambassador for Indian sport.

However, the recent spate of injuries and fluctuating form have tested her resilience. Fans and experts alike hope that a complete recovery period will allow her to regain top shape ahead of the 2026 season and the upcoming World Tour Finals.

Eyes on a Strong Comeback in 2026

Sindhu’s withdrawal marks a strategic pause rather than a setback. Her focus now is on comprehensive rehabilitation and fitness rebuilding. “I feel motivated, grateful, and hungrier than ever for what lies ahead,” she concluded.

As the badminton world watches closely, one question lingers — can PV Sindhu script yet another comeback story that cements her legacy among the all-time greats?
