Sydney: Indian cricket team vice-captain Shreyas Iyer shared a message on social media on Thursday, expressing gratitude for the support and well-wishes he received during his recovery from a serious injury. Iyer injured his ribs while attempting a brilliant catch while fielding in the third ODI against Australia in Sydney on October 25, 2025. He was immediately rushed to the hospital and later admitted to the ICU.

The 30-year-old Iyer wrote in his post fron Sydney that, “I am currently in the recovery process and am getting better with each passing day. I am very grateful for all the good wishes and support I have received, it truly means a lot to me. Thank you for keeping me in your thoughts.”

Iyer’s Medical Updates

The injury initially appeared to be a minor rib problem, but the BCCI confirmed that scans revealed a spleen injury. Due to this, he was admitted to the ICU of a Sydney hospital.

In its first statement on October 27, the BCCI said: “Shreyas Iyer sustained a left lower rib injury during the third ODI against Australia on October 25. He was taken to the hospital for further evaluation. Scans revealed a splenic injury. He is undergoing treatment, his condition is stable, and he is recovering.”

The next day, on October 28, the BCCI provided an update: “Shreyas Iyer sustained a minor abdominal injury during the third ODI, resulting in a splenic injury and internal bleeding. The injury was immediately identified and the bleeding was stopped. His condition is now stable and he is being monitored.”

Iyer’s Improvement

A repeat scan conducted on October 28 revealed a significant improvement in Iyer’s condition. The BCCI medical team is continuously monitoring his progress in consultation with experts in Sydney and India. Team India and fans are now hopeful that Iyer will make a full recovery and return to the field soon.
