New Delhi: The International Cricket Council (ICC) has officially launched the Women’s T20 World Cup 2026, with Chairman Jay Shah describing the tournament as a significant step in the governing body's efforts to make cricket more inclusive and globally accessible.

The prestigious event will be held across England from June 12 to July 5, bringing together the world's top women’s teams in what is expected to be one of the biggest editions of the tournament to date.

Jay Shah Highlights ICC’s Vision

Speaking during the official launch ceremony held at London’s Waterloo Bridge, Jay Shah said the tournament represents a major milestone for women’s cricket and reflects the ICC’s long-term commitment to growing the game.

He noted that the competition is expected to generate unprecedented excitement among players and fans while helping to strengthen the profile of women’s cricket on the global stage.

According to Shah, the tournament aligns with the ICC’s broader objective of creating a more inclusive sport and expanding cricket’s reach to new audiences worldwide.

Grand Launch Celebrates Women’s Cricket

The launch event brought together captains from all 12 participating teams, creating a vibrant atmosphere ahead of the tournament.

Fans and young cricketers from London and other host cities, including Birmingham, Manchester, Leeds, Bristol and Southampton, took part in street cricket activities, interactive sessions and entertainment programmes designed to promote the event and inspire future generations.

Organisers believe the celebrations have helped build momentum and anticipation before the tournament begins next year.

Defending Champions and Title Contenders

New Zealand will enter the competition as defending champions after securing the title in 2024 with a victory over South Africa in the final.

Australia remain the most successful team in Women’s T20 World Cup history, having won six titles and continuing to be among the favourites for the upcoming edition.

Meanwhile, India, led by Harmanpreet Kaur, will aim to capture their first-ever Women’s T20 World Cup crown. The team enters the tournament with confidence after winning the Women’s ODI World Cup last year and will be looking to carry that momentum into the shortest format.

With growing global interest and strong competition expected, the Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 is set to be a landmark event for the sport.
