Chapra: Altogether four police personnel were arrested in connection with the death of a shopkeeper after being allegedly beaten by excise department team under Kopa police station area in Saran district.

Police said here an Excise department team which was conducting raids in Nayaka Bazaar intercepted a motorcycle by which one Suresh Singh, resident of Khairwar village of Rivilganj police station area, was returning home with his son after closing his shop and frisked the vehicle.

Suresh Singh, a shop owner, objected to the frisking after which the police beat him up following which Suresh Singh had a cardiac arrest resulting in his death on the spot.

Agitated with the incident, the villagers took the four police cops in their captive and took them to Kopa police station. The other police personal, however, had also fled to the police station.

The deceased's son alleged the police snatched Rs 2 lakh and mobile phone from his father. The sources said the mobile phone was recovered from the excise department vehicle.

An FIR against the police personnel were lodged at Kopa police station. Later,four police personnel were arrested in connection with the incident.
