New Delhi: Delhiites on Sunday woke up to overcast skies and light to moderate rain, which is expected to improve the air quality. According to System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting And Research (SAFAR), "Under the influence of approaching western disturbance the wind reversal to easterly will happen by Sunday.

"AQI is forecasted to improve but will remain in the poor category for today. But thereafter it is likely to be moderate for the next 3 days." The air quality in the national capital had slipped to "very poor" category. "Favorable meteorological conditions lead to intrusion of stubble burning related air mass. With 1,572 effective fire counts as per SAFAR harmonised methodology, which includes data of two ISRO satellites, the stubble burning contribution in Delhi's air has suddenly increased to 14 per cent," SAFAR added.

Meanwhile, the IMD has issued a rainfall alert in its morning weather bulletin. "Light to moderate intensity rain would occur over and adjoining areas of isolated places of South-Delhi, East-Delhi, South-West Delhi, South-East Delhi, Kurukshetra, Kaithal, Narwana, Rajaund, Assandh, Loharu, Sohana (Haryana)," it said. The IMD has also predicted, "Thunderstorms and heavy rainfall over Uttarakhand, West Uttar Pradesh and Haryana on Sunday and Monday (October 17 and October 18) as a result of western disturbance interaction with low-level easterlies." The maximum and minimum temperature in the city will be hovering around 32 and 21 degrees Celsius respectively, the IMD said.

"The relative humidity at 0830 hours on Sunday was recorded at 90 percent," the meteorological department added. (UNI)
