East Rutherford, New Jersey/ 27 June 2016. Defending Champions Chile crushed 14 times Champions Argentina 4-2 in the penalty shoot-out to retain the Championship of Copa America Centenario title.

Neither team scored a goal at the end of regulation and extra time.

The final had moved to penalties after scores were 0-0 at the end of 120 minutes.
Goal scorers
Francisco Silva, Jean Beausejour, Charles Aranguiz and Castillo scored the goals for Chile in the shoot-out while it was Sergio Aguero and Mascherano who scored the two goals for Argentina.

Award winners
Eduardo Vargas, Alexis Sanchez and Claudio Bravo of Chile won the Golden Boot, Golden Ball and Golden Glove award respectively.
Players and fans of Argentina were feeling disappointed as it was their team’s third loss in an important final after they lost to Germany in 2014 World Cup and Chile in last year’s Copa America.
Following the defeat of his team to Chile in the Copa America Centenario final, Lionel Messi announced his retirement from the international football.
