UP: Man kills woman, attempts suicide later

Etawah: A 22-year-old man allegedly killed a woman before attempting suicide by consuming poison in the Bakewar area here, police said on Thursday.

The woman, along with her nephew, had gone to bring fodder from the fields in Madauli village on Wednesday evening. Babu alias Khushi Lal reached there and he and the woman had an argument after which Lal hit her with an iron rod and inflicted a deep wound on the neck leading to her death, Senior Superintendent of Police Brijesh Kumar Singh said.

Later, the man consumed some poisonous substance, Singh said, adding he was rushed to a hospital where he is undergoing treatment.

The man told the police that he was in a relationship with the 20-year-old woman for the past some years but lately another man had come into her life, the SSP said.

Police are taking necessary action into the matter, he said.(PTI)
