Lucknow: Senior Samajwadi Party leader Azam Khan landed in fresh legal trouble on Thursday after the Uttar Pradesh Vigilance Department registered an FIR in an alleged State Haj Committee land sale case. The matter has gained attention due to allegations of financial loss, procedural violations and questions over the handling of a government-linked property transaction.

The FIR relates to the alleged sale of around 60,000 square feet of Haj Committee land in Lucknow’s Aishbagh area, where investigators are examining whether rules were followed during the transfer process and whether the transaction caused a financial loss of around Rs 2.08 crore.

The development has once again brought Azam Khan into the spotlight, as the veteran politician continues to face multiple legal challenges linked to land and institutional matters.

The Uttar Pradesh Vigilance Department has registered a case against Azam Khan, two former officials associated with the State Haj Committee and two individuals linked to a private developer.

The investigation is focused on the alleged sale of Haj Committee property located in the Kaimkheda area near Aishbagh in Lucknow. Officials are examining documents related to ownership, approvals, valuation and the process through which the land transaction was completed.

The FIR follows a government-directed inquiry initiated after concerns were raised over possible irregularities in the land deal. The Vigilance Department examined the role of officials and private parties involved in the transaction before registering the case.

The Haj Committee Land Matter

The controversy revolves around allegations related to the sale of land belonging to the Uttar Pradesh State Haj Committee. Investigators are looking into whether mandatory procedures were followed before transferring the property and whether the transaction provided any unfair advantage to private parties.

The case has raised wider questions about transparency in government-linked property transactions, including land valuation, administrative approvals and compliance with legal procedures. The Vigilance probe will examine whether there was any violation of rules while finalising the deal and whether the public institution suffered financial damage.

Azam Khan’s Role Under Scanner

At the time of the alleged transaction, Azam Khan was associated with the State Haj Committee as its chairman. The investigation is examining whether his position had any influence on the decision-making process related to the land sale.

However, registration of an FIR does not establish guilt. The allegations are currently under investigation, and further legal proceedings will determine the facts and responsibility of the individuals named in the case.

Private Developer Connection Investigated

Along with officials linked to the Haj Committee, the Vigilance Department is also examining the role of individuals associated with a private developer.

Investigators are looking into the circumstances under which the land was transferred and whether the private entity received any financial benefit from the transaction. The probe is expected to analyse sale documents, property records, official approvals and other evidence related to the deal.

Fresh Political Battle Over Azam Khan Case

The FIR has intensified political discussions in Uttar Pradesh, where Azam Khan remains one of the most influential opposition leaders. The ruling party is likely to use the development to target the Samajwadi Party over allegations related to administrative decisions taken during previous governments.

For the Samajwadi Party, the case comes as another challenge involving one of its senior leaders. The development may further intensify political debates around accountability, governance and alleged misuse of authority.

Azam Khan’s Earlier Legal Challenges

Azam Khan has faced several legal cases in recent years involving allegations related to land matters, educational institutions and other administrative issues. The latest Haj Committee land case adds another legal battle for the senior SP leader, keeping him at the centre of political and judicial discussions in Uttar Pradesh.

The UP Vigilance Department will examine official records, questioning individuals connected with the transaction and collecting additional evidence. Further action will depend on the findings of the probe and the evidence gathered during the investigation.

The FIR marks the beginning of a fresh investigation into the alleged Haj Committee land deal, with both legal and political implications likely to continue in Uttar Pradesh.
