Under the Nasha Mukt Devbhoomi campaign, Dehradun Police arrested Bilal, a student drug peddler who used children to distribute smack. Around 12.36 grams of smack worth ₹3.7 lakh was recovered from his possession.
Dehradun: Dehradun Police has achieved a major success under the Drug-Free Devbhoomi campaign. Police in the Vikasnagar area have arrested Bilal, a student drug trafficker who used innocent children to supply drugs. The accused was apprehended in the Kunja Grant area and recovered approximately 12.36 grams of smack. According to police, the seized smack is estimated to be worth approximately ₹3.7 lakh in the international market.
Interrogation revealed that the accused lured children with money or chocolates to deliver packets of smack to avoid suspicion. Following repeated complaints from local residents and the media, police acted on a tip-off. Recently, after a video of a child being found with smack went viral, police became more active and apprehended the accused.
Police officials stated that 26 cases have been registered under the NDPS Act in the past year, while three new cases have been reported in the last 15 days alone. The accused has been jailed before and has a history of drug abuse. The investigation also raises suspicions of the involvement of some of the accused's family members.
The police have clarified that strict legal action will be taken in cases of child abuse. Currently, the police are investigating the accused's entire network and suppliers.
