Sonbhadra is witnessing a surge in illegal drug sales, alarming residents and local authorities. The Samajwadi Party (SP) staged a protest at the Chief Medical Officer’s office, demanding strict action against medical stores selling narcotic syrups, injections, and other drugs without permission.
Sonbhadra: The drug trade is steadily increasing in Sonbhadra district, causing concern among the people of the area. Samajwadi Party (SP) workers protested in front of the Chief Medical Officer's (CMO) office in Robertsganj headquarters over this issue. They allege that many medical stores are selling narcotic drugs, such as injections and cough syrups, to young people without permission.
SP workers say that the administration is not taking action despite complaints. Recently, some people were arrested for illegally selling narcotic cough syrups, but there is no improvement in the situation in the district. There are constant complaints of illegal drug trade in rural and urban areas.
During the protest, SP leaders warned that if the illegal sale of drugs is not stopped soon, the future of the youth is in danger. They submitted a memorandum to the CMO demanding immediate inspection of medical stores across the district and action against illegal trade. The growing drug problem in Sonbhadra and the administration's laxity are now becoming a major issue of social and political controversy.
