New Delhi: The seat-sharing formula between the Congress and the Samajwadi Party for the upcoming Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections has emerged as one of the biggest talking points amid the INDIA Bloc meeting in New Delhi.
The issue was discussed in detail during ‘Dynamite Debate’, where Dynamite News Executive Editor Subhash Raturi, political expert Komal Chauhan, and election reporters Rohit Goel from New Delhi, Himanshu Singh from Sitapur, Brahmesh Kumar from Mainpuri and CP Singh from Kannauj analysed the evolving political scenario in Uttar Pradesh.
The debate over seat allocation gained momentum after Uttar Pradesh Congress in-charge Rajendra Pal Gautam reportedly said that if an alliance is formed, the party would not contest fewer than 150 seats in the state. He also indicated that discussions on seat sharing are expected to be completed by October.
The demand has added a new dimension to negotiations between the two INDIA Bloc partners in Uttar Pradesh.
According to reports, the Samajwadi Party has started preparations across nearly 350 of Uttar Pradesh’s 403 Assembly constituencies. The party’s extensive preparations have created a challenging situation for seat-sharing talks, with both parties showing interest in a significant number of seats. However, no final agreement has been announced so far, and discussions between the allies are still underway.
The INDIA Bloc meeting held in Delhi on September 30 discussed several issues, including Special Intensive Revision (SIR), electoral processes and matters related to Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. Opposition parties are also expected to discuss a possible joint strategy on election-related issues and future political actions.
Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav did not attend the INDIA Bloc meeting in Delhi. According to Congress leaders, Yadav was occupied with the Rajya Sabha election nomination process in Uttar Pradesh. The party said senior SP leaders represented the organisation at the meeting.
Despite political discussions gaining pace, the final seat-sharing arrangement between the Congress and Samajwadi Party has not been finalised. The figures of 150 seats and 350 seats currently represent the respective political preparations and demands of the parties rather than a confirmed alliance formula.
With the Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections approaching, negotiations between the two parties are expected to remain a key political development in the coming months.
