New Delhi: A social media post describing how an employee was allegedly asked to attend a mandatory office meeting during an approved vacation has reignited discussions about workplace boundaries and respect for employee leave.
The account, shared by an X user named Nia, claims the incident occurred while she was several days into a holiday at a lakeside campsite with poor mobile connectivity. According to the post, her manager informed her of a mandatory training session scheduled to begin within 20 minutes and insisted that all employees attend without exception.
Nia said she reminded her manager that she was on approved leave. However, she alleged that the manager responded by sharing the company's mandatory training policy and warned that failing to attend would be marked as a no-show.
Despite limited internet access, she joined the virtual meeting from her phone with both the microphone and camera turned off.
During the session, the manager allegedly asked participants to switch on their cameras to verify attendance. Nia complied, revealing that she was outdoors on vacation, holding a drink with the lakeside visible in the background.
According to the post, the unexpected setting briefly left the meeting silent before the manager quickly moved on with the session.
Nia claimed she was never asked to attend another meeting while on leave after the incident. However, she later resigned from the organisation, saying the experience reflected a lack of respect for personal boundaries and work-life balance.
The post attracted widespread attention online, with many users supporting the employee and arguing that approved leave should be respected. Others said organisations should provide alternate arrangements for mandatory training instead of requiring employees to participate during scheduled vacations.
The claims made in the viral post have not been independently verified.
