The case has been filed under various provisions of the Indian Penal Code and the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960. Authorities have confirmed that an investigation is currently underway.
The footage circulating online shows a crowd celebrating Holi with tractors and carts. In one segment of the video, two individuals appear to hold the buffalo’s mouth while another pours alcohol into it. The animal is then seen pulling a cart carrying several people.

Residents and social media users strongly condemned the act, calling it a shocking instance of animal cruelty and a misuse of festive celebrations.
The incident also drew attention from People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) India, which urged authorities to take swift action. The organisation said it received multiple complaints about the video posted on Instagram.

According to PETA, the buffalo was restrained with a rope tied tightly around its nose and forced to pull a heavily loaded cart. A person seated at the front allegedly used a long stick to control the animal and make it move faster. The organisation also claimed that chemical colours were applied to the buffalo during the celebrations.
PETA has asked authorities to ensure the safety of the animal and to take steps to prevent similar incidents in the future. The organisation also cited provisions under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, including sections related to negligence towards animals and endangering public safety.
Police officials said further action will be taken based on the findings of the ongoing investigation.
