New Delhi: A 69-year-old woman in Karnataka’s Mandya, who earned her living by begging, surprised her family and neighbours after it was discovered that she had saved ₹8.40 lakh during her lifetime.
The woman, identified as Noor, lived alone in her own house in Sabdariyabad Mohalla on Guttalu Road under the East Police Station limits.
For years, Noor used to beg at different roads and traffic junctions across the city. She collected the coins she received from people and carefully stored them in bags at her home.
Noor passed away on Wednesday due to age-related health issues. After her death, family members and local residents performed her last rites. Later, while checking her belongings, they found bags filled with coins stored inside her house.
When the collected money was counted along with the amount available in her bank account, the total savings were calculated to be around ₹8.40 lakh.
According to police officials, no case has been registered as Noor’s death occurred due to natural causes.
Her simple lifestyle and disciplined saving habit left people in the neighbourhood surprised, as she had quietly accumulated a significant amount of money despite depending on begging for survival.
