Pratapgarh: A dramatic incident unfolded in Uttar Pradesh’s Pratapgarh district on Saturday when a 27-year-old man climbed onto the roof of a moving train, forcing railway authorities to cut power and halt operations for nearly 40 minutes to prevent a potential electrocution.
The incident occurred around 4:20 pm as the New Delhi-Manduadih Kashi Vishwanath Express made a routine halt at Maa Belha Devi Dham railway station. The man, identified as Mohammad Anas from Sant Kabir Nagar, suddenly scaled the side of a coach and positioned himself on the roof.

Eyewitnesses said the act stunned onlookers, with many fearing he would come into contact with the high-voltage overhead electric wires.
When the train resumed its journey, Anas continued to remain atop the moving coaches. Videos circulating on X (formerly Twitter) show him sprinting from one coach to another while the train moved under live overhead cables.
One viral caption read: “A major accident was narrowly averted at Mauhar Phatak in Pratapgarh… a young man suddenly climbed onto the moving train, triggering chaos among people on the spot.”
As soon as railway officials were informed, the control room acted immediately cutting power to the overhead lines and bringing the train to a halt near Naya Mal Godown Road.
To prevent vehicles from crossing the tracks during the rescue operation, nearby railway gates were shut, causing temporary traffic congestion in surrounding areas.

Pratapgarh Police later confirmed on X that the man was rescued safely following a “swift joint action” by the Government Railway Police (GRP) and the Railway Protection Force (RPF).
Railway Sewa also responded to public queries online, stating that officials had been alerted and that the matter had been forwarded for further action.
Authorities have not yet confirmed why Anas climbed onto the moving train, but officials said appropriate legal action is being pursued. The incident has sparked widespread discussion online, with many users comparing it to a real-life “Subway Surfers” stunt gone wrong.
