Amaravati: At least 9 workers were killed and 12 others injured when a mango-laden truck overturned at Reddipalli village of Pullampet mandal in Annamayya district last night. Five women are among the dead, reports Dynamite News correspondent.
The ghastly accident took place near Reddycheruvu Katta in Pullampeta mandal of the district on Sunday night. The truck that met with the accident was loaded with mangoes. About 20 people were travelling in this truck with some who were sitting on top of the sacks of mangoes.

The accident happened at night. The truck was going from Rajampeta to Railway Koduru carrying mangoes and people.
Police said, the accident took place around 9.30 pm on Sunday night. "This happened when the rear wheel of a lorry got stuck in the sand and it lost balance and fell on a mini truck," a police official said.

Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has expressed shock and grief over the loss of lives and property in the accident. He asked the officials about the cause of the accident.
According to the Chief Minister Office (CMO), officials told him that the victims were going from Rajampet to Koduru railway station when the incident occurred at night.
The Chief Minister Office said that full assistance is being provided to the grieved families of the deceased.

"They also informed that proper medical facilities are being provided to the injured. Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu assured that the government will provide full assistance to the families of the deceased. He directed the officials to ensure quality medical facilities for those injured in the accident," said the CM Office.
Labourers were returning after plucking mangoes
The truck was carrying 30-40 tonnes of mangoes, and 21 daily wage labourers were also on board. These workers had gone to Isukapalli and surrounding villages in Rajampeta to pluck mangoes.
All the workers were from Railway Kodur and Venkatagiri mandal of Tirupati district. When the truck overturned, the workers were buried under 30-40 tonnes of mangoes, killing eight workers on the spot. Another worker, Munichandra (38), died in a hospital in Rajampeta.
