Chennai: Administration and security agencies were alarmed after receiving a threat to blow up the Enforcement Directorate (ED) office in Chennai with RDX. The DGP's office received a threatening email claiming that explosives had been planted in the ED's regional office located in Shastri Bhavan. However, after investigation, the threat turned out to be a hoax threat.

Threatening Email Received By DGP's Office

On Thursday morning, an anonymous email was sent to the DGP's office in Chennai, stating that RDX had been planted in the ED office located on the third floor of B Wing, Block 3, of Shastri Bhavan on Haddows Road.

Upon receiving this email, panic gripped police and ED officials. The Bomb Disposal Squad, dog squad, and senior police officers immediately arrived at the scene.

Security Beefed Up At ED Office

Immediately after receiving the email, tight security was increased outside the ED office. As a precaution, staff were temporarily barred from entering the building.

Around 8:40 a.m., a police team arrived at Shastri Bhawan, cordoned off the entire complex, and began an investigation.

No Explosives Found During Hours-Long Search

At 10:30 a.m., the anti-sabotage team began the search operation in the presence of senior ED officials, including the Special Director, Additional Director, and CEZO-1.

The search, which lasted approximately an hour, thoroughly searched every room in the office, including the file room, electrical area, and parking lot.

After inspecting all areas, the bomb squad and dog squad reported that no explosive material or suspicious object was found.

Search For Sender Of Fake Email Continues

Following an investigation, the police confirmed that the threat was false and that an unknown person had sent the fake email with the intention of spreading panic.

The Chennai Police Cyber ​​Cell has now begun investigating the source of the email. Officials are trying to trace the email ID, IP address, and server location to reach the accused.
