CBI arrests MCD deputy commissioner
New Delhi: The Central Bureau of Investigation has arrested a senior official of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi in connection with an alleged ₹4 lakh bribery case. The accused has been identified as Abhishek Kumar Mishra, serving as Deputy Commissioner in Shahdara North.
According to officials, the arrest was made after credible information surfaced regarding a demand for illegal gratification linked to the civic body’s licensing department.
The case was registered following a complaint received by the agency, which alleged that an accounts officer, Divyanshu Gautam, demanded a bribe of ₹4 lakh from a license inspector.

Investigators indicated that the case may not be limited to a single transaction. Preliminary findings suggest the possibility of a broader pattern of corruption within the department. Officials said further details would be shared as the investigation progresses.
The agency is now examining documents and communication records to identify whether more individuals were involved in the alleged bribery network.
In a separate development, a special CBI court in Thane has convicted a former Income Tax officer in a long-pending corruption case. The court sentenced the accused to six months of rigorous imprisonment and imposed a monetary fine.
