Lucknow: A CBI court in Lucknow has sentenced a former Bank of Baroda branch manager to four years in prison and imposed a fine of Rs 30,000 in a bribery case involving a loan sanctioned to a businessman for expanding his solar lights business.
The convicted man, Subodh Kumar Rastogi, was the branch manager at Bank of Baroda's Balrampur branch in Uttar Pradesh when the alleged offence took place. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) had registered the case against him in October 2015 following a complaint by the borrower.
According to the CBI, the complainant had been sanctioned a loan of Rs 5 lakh to expand his solar lights business. However, while disbursing Rs 1.25 lakh as a term loan, Rastogi allegedly collected around Rs 25,000 from him on the pretext of CA charges, stamp paper expenses, and file charges.

The complainant was subsequently sanctioned another Rs 3.75 lakh as a cash credit limit. The CBI alleged that Rastogi then demanded an additional bribe of Rs 25,000, threatening to close the account if the money was not paid.
Following the complaint, the CBI laid a trap and caught Rastogi red-handed while accepting Rs 10,000 from the complainant as illegal gratification.
The agency registered the case on October 26, 2015, and filed a chargesheet against Rastogi on December 18, 2015, after completing its investigation.
After the trial, the CBI court convicted Rastogi and sentenced him to four years of imprisonment, along with a fine of Rs 30,000. The conviction was pronounced on November 2, 2026.
