New Delhi: In a major operation, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested Army Colonel Himanshu Bali. He is accused of accepting a bribe of ₹50 lakh.
Himanshu Bali holds the rank of Colonel and is posted with the Army Ordnance Corps, Eastern Command, at Fort William, Kolkata. An FIR was registered in connection with the bribery allegations, leading to Himanshu Bali's subsequent arrest.
Specifically, the CBI registered an FIR regarding alleged corruption and bribery involving Army tenders. In this case, several individuals—including Army officer Colonel Himanshu Bali—have been named as accused.
According to the FIR, the promoters of Eastern Global Limited, a Kanpur-based company, are accused of paying bribes to secure Army tenders. The investigative agency asserts that the company was unduly favored in the allocation of several tenders.
According to the CBI, Colonel Himanshu Bali was posted at the Eastern Command, Fort William, Kolkata, at the time of the alleged offenses. It is alleged that he accepted bribes in exchange for facilitating the award of tenders, approving substandard samples, and clearing inflated bills.
Plans to Transfer ₹50 Lakh via 'Hawala' Channel
The FIR claims that during March and April 2026, a major tender was awarded to the company in exchange for a bribe. The investigation also revealed that on April 22, 2026, Colonel Bali met with representatives of the company in the Park Street area of Kolkata. Two days later—on April 24—the company was awarded the tender in question.
The CBI has alleged that on May 16, 2026, Colonel Bali demanded the remaining balance of the bribe amount. Preparations were reportedly underway to transfer approximately ₹50 lakh to the Delhi-NCR region through the 'Hawala' channel.
In connection with this case, Akshat Agarwal, Mayank Agarwal, Ashutosh Shukla, Naresh Pal, and other unidentified individuals have also been named as accused. The case has been registered under the Prevention of Corruption Act and Section 61(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). CBI DSP Sunil Kumar is investigating the case.
