Mumbai: Security agencies were stirred up after receiving an email threatening to bomb Mumbai's prestigious Nair Hospital on Sunday. The threat was sent to the hospital's dean via email at around 11 pm on Saturday night, which clearly stated that the hospital would be blown up with a bomb.
As soon as the administration received information about the email, the police and the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS) team immediately reached the spot, and an intensive search operation was carried out throughout the night.
The police and BDDS team searched every corner of the hospital premises, but no suspicious object was found even after several hours of investigation. After this, the officials declared this threat to be fake, which brought some relief. However, the police have registered a case and started investigating who sent this email and why.
This incident has come to light at a time when, two days ago, Mumbai Police received a call stating that 34 "human bombs" with 400 kg of RDX have been planted in different vehicles in the city. The caller had described himself as a member of the Lashkar-e-Jihadi organization. In that case too, the police had conducted a massive search operation, but no explosives were found.
High alert due to Ganesh immersion
Security was already increased in Mumbai and across Maharashtra due to the Ganesh festival and immersion. More than 21,000 policemen were deployed in Mumbai city alone to prevent any untoward incident.
In Mumbai, the incidents of fake bomb threats have increased rapidly in the recent months.
Last week: A 43-year-old man was arrested for threatening to blow up Thane's Kalwa station.
August: The ISKCON temple in Girgaon received a bomb threat via email, which turned out to be fake.
July: There was also a threat to blow up Terminal-2 of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport.
The Mumbai Police is constantly grappling with these fake threats, which keeps the security agencies on alert. However, repeated false threats increase the pressure on police resources and also create confusion among the common people.
Nevertheless, the police are taking every alert seriously so that no lapse occurs and the security of the city remains intact.
