Kolkata: Threatening leaders and workers of opposition parties by Trinamool Congress leaders is not a new thing.

A few months ago, Trinamool leaders had threatened to break the hands and legs of the BJP MLA of Onda in Bankura.

After this, now Malda district president Abdur Rahim Bakshi has threatened to pour acid in the mouth of the Chief Whip and MLA of the BJP Legislative Party in the Assembly. However, this is not the first time.

Earlier also Abdur Rahim had threatened to cut the hands and legs of BJP, CPI(M) and Congress leaders and workers.

Trinamool district president Abdur Rahim Bakshi made the acid-pouring remark while addressing a meeting on Saturday evening. A meeting was organized by Trinamool to protest against the "atrocities on Bengali-speaking migrant laborers" in other states.

Trinamool district president targeted
In his speech, Bakshi attacked BJP MLA Shankar Ghosh, though he did not name him. Without naming him, the Trinamool district president targeted him. Referring to Ghosh's previous comments in the assembly calling migrant workers from Bengal "Rohingya" and "Bangladeshis", Bakshi said that those who shamelessly say that 30 lakh migrant workers from Bengal who work outside are not Bengalis... they are Rohingyas, Bangladeshis.

He said that I said then and I am saying today too - if I hear this from you again, I will burn your voice to ashes by pouring acid in your mouth. You should know that this is Bengal. We Bengalis will not give you a place to speak. I will burn your face with acid.

Asked to tear BJP flags
He urged people to tear BJP flags and socially boycott party leaders in the district. The BJP condemned his remarks and accused the Trinamool of promoting a culture of intimidation and violence. Khagen Murmu, BJP MP from Malda North, said such threats reflect Trinamool's desperation ahead of the state elections.

He said this is Trinamool's culture. Their job is to intimidate people. Such statements are now coming in Malda. The Trinamool Congress district president often says such things to remain in the news. The fear of Trinamool's defeat in the next assembly elections is working for them.
