New Delhi: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested the founder of a Maharashtra-based coaching institute in connection with the alleged NEET-UG 2026 paper leak case, officials said on Monday.
The arrest marks a major development in the ongoing investigation that led to the cancellation of the national medical entrance examination earlier this month.
The accused, identified as Shivraj Raghunath Motegaonkar, runs Renukai Chemistry Classes (RCC) in Latur. According to officials, the CBI recovered an alleged leaked NEET-UG question paper from his mobile phone during searches conducted at the institute’s office in Shivnagar locality on Sunday.

Investigators claim Motegaonkar was part of an organised network involved in obtaining and circulating the examination paper ahead of the test conducted on May 3.
The agency alleged that the leaked paper and answer key were shared with multiple individuals before the examination. Officials said Motegaonkar had been under questioning for several days before his arrest.
CBI teams have been stationed in Latur for the past few days as part of the wider probe into the alleged malpractice. Sources linked to the investigation said the agency is also examining whether some medical professionals and coaching-linked individuals may have accessed the leaked paper.
The searches at RCC came shortly after another key arrest in the case. On Saturday, the CBI arrested Pune-based Biology lecturer Manisha Gurunath Mandhare, who was allegedly associated with the National Testing Agency’s paper-setting process.

The NEET-UG 2026 examination was conducted across 551 Indian cities and 14 international centres, with nearly 23 lakh candidates appearing for the test.
Following reports of suspected malpractice, the National Testing Agency informed central authorities about possible irregularities. The examination was later cancelled, and the government handed over the case to the CBI for investigation.
Fresh dates for the reconducted examination have already been announced, while multiple investigation teams continue to track the alleged leak network across different states.
