New Delhi: A 48-year-old woman was killed in broad daylight inside a temple in east Delhi’s Mansarovar Park area on Sunday, creating shock and fear among local residents. The incident occurred around noon inside a temple within the DDA Flats complex while the victim was performing her prayers. Police have detained a suspect and recovered the weapon used in the attack.

Attack During Prayers

The victim has been identified as Kusum Sharma, wife of temple priest Mahesh Sharma. According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (Shahdara) Prashant Gautam, a distress call was received at approximately 12 pm reporting that a woman had been stabbed.

Kusum sustained multiple stab wounds to her head and upper body and was rushed to Guru Teg Bahadur (GTB) Hospital, where she was declared dead. Another woman, Bina Garg, who tried to intervene during the attack, was also injured and received medical treatment.

Preliminary Probe Indicates Possible Enmity

Police investigations suggest that an unidentified man, accompanied by an associate, attacked Kusum repeatedly with a knife. “Preliminary findings indicate that the motive may involve an old enmity. Multiple teams are working on the case,” the DCP said. A case has been registered, and the investigation is ongoing.

The attack occurred around 11:30 am when Kusum was sitting inside the temple with three to four others. A young man armed with a large knife reportedly entered, asked about the priest, and upon being directed to Kusum, launched a sudden attack.
