Massive cough syrup haul in Varanasi
Lucknow: In a joint operation by the SIT and Rohania police, illegal cough syrup worth approximately Rs 60 lakh was recovered from Sujabad (Ramnagar) on Tuesday evening. The police seized the consignment from a warehouse located behind an e-rickshaw charging station belonging to Manoj Yadav, a resident of Godaulia, which is reportedly linked to Shubham Jaiswal. The e-rickshaw charging station was built in front to conceal the warehouse where the cough syrup was stored.
Rohania police station in-charge Raju Singh said that a large consignment worth Rs 2 crore was seized in Bhadwar on November 19. That consignment was ordered from RS Pharma, a firm belonging to Saurabh Tyagi of Ghaziabad. Rohania police were keeping a close watch on the transporter of Saurabh Tyagi's firm.
On Tuesday, the police received information that a truck carrying the consignment had left Ghaziabad on December 1 and reached Sujabad on 2 December.
When the police force reached the spot, they found a warehouse behind the e-rickshaw charging station. Upon receiving the information, DCP Crime Saravanan T., ACP Kotwali Shubham Singh, along with their force, arrived at the scene.
A team from the Drug Department also joined the investigation. During the search, 30,000 bottles of cough syrup were recovered in 173 boxes. The DCP said that the value of the consignment is Rs 60 lakh.
Raid conducted after tracking via GPS
In the case of the recovery of illegal cough syrup worth approximately Rs 60 lakh from Sujabad (Ramnagar), the Rohania police conducted the operation by monitoring the truck through a GPS tracker. On Tuesday, the police force reached the spot and raided the e-rickshaw charging station, locating the warehouse.
Rohania police station in-charge Raju Singh said that the police had been monitoring the truck that left Ghaziabad on December 1 with the consignment using a GPS tracker. The truck reached Sujabad on December 2nd.
Upon receiving information, a police team arrived at the spot on Tuesday, where they found an e-rickshaw charging station. Two young men were present at the site, acting as caretakers. During the investigation, officers learned that there was also a warehouse behind the station.
DCP Crime Saravanan T. said that a cargo vehicle belonging to Azad Jaiswal, a resident of Pishach Mochan, was also recovered from the e-rickshaw charging station. It was identified by its registration number. Jaiswal is currently in jail in connection with the case involving cough syrup worth Rs 2 crore seized in Bhadwar on November 19th.
Saurabh and Shiva named in the Bhadwar case
Saurabh Tyagi and Shivakant alias Shiva have now also been named in the case involving the Rs 2 crore worth of cough syrup seized in Bhadwar on November 19th.
Inspector Raju Singh said that the goods came from Saurabh's firm, while Shivakant had arranged for the shipment. Therefore, both have been named in the case. An application has been filed in court to bring both of them to Varanasi on a warrant.
