Satna: In the Satna district of Madhya Pradesh, a youth has created a ruckus on social media by threatening to kill the famous saint Premanand Maharaj of Vrindavan. The youth wrote in the comment section of a post on Facebook, "I would have taken off your neck..." after which this post went viral rapidly and became a topic of discussion among the people.
What was the reason for the controversy?
Saint Premanand Maharaj was recently in the news due to a video in which he warned the youth against the growing "boyfriend-girlfriend culture," breakup-patchup, and immoral conduct in modern society. He said that such behavior of the youth is harmful for their future. This video became very popular on social media, but some people did not like his words. Due to this, a youth from Satna threatened him.
Who threatened, and what did he write?
On Thursday, a young man from Satna, Shatrughan Singh (who has described himself as a journalist in his Facebook profile), commented on a post and threatened to kill Saint Premanand Maharaj. He wrote, "I would have taken off your neck..." This comment soon went viral, and people took it seriously. Now the question arises whether this was just a statement made in anger or if the young man is really thinking of harming the saint.
Reactions on social media
After this incident, two types of reactions came on social media. Some people have considered the threat of the young man as a serious crime and demanded action against him, while some say that this is just the act of a "keyboard warrior" (person who threatens online), which should not be taken too seriously.
What legal action can be taken?
Threatening to kill someone is a serious crime under Indian law. There is a provision for punishment for threatening under Section 506 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). If Saint Premanand Maharaj or any other person complains about this, the police can register a case against the youth.
