Mumbai: Director SS Rajamouli speaks at WAVES, that 'No country in the world comes even close to India in terms of having such a rich, vibrant culture of storytelling.'
Rajamouli acclaimed for his monumental work on Baahubali and RRR, called for the global recognition of India's unparalleled storytelling heritage, emphasising the country's vast reservoir of stories and art forms.
Speaking at the inaugural WAVES Summit 2025, Rajamouli highlighted India's cultural richness and its potential to become a global leader in creative media. "We have millions of stories and countless art forms. No country in the world comes even close to India in terms of having such a rich, vibrant culture of storytelling," Rajamouli said.
"But yet, on the international stage, we are not on par with the USA, South Korea, China, and other countries. I have no doubt in the power we possess—we just need a launchpad. I hope WAVES eases that launchpad," he stated.
Rajamouli's statement resonated with many at the summit, as leading figures from India's entertainment industry lauded the government's efforts to support the creative economy. Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision for India's global cultural influence was a key theme throughout the event.
Shahrukh Khan, a prominent voice in the industry, echoed Rajamouli's sentiments, stating that India's creative output is now being recognized as a global asset. “The global audio, visual and entertainment economy views our stories not just as art, but as assets of global and national value, an idea inspired by the grand vision of PM Narendra Modi,” Khan said. “WAVES is more than a summit; it’s a global platform and a catalyst for creators, innovators, disruptors, and dreamers.”
Other luminaries also praised PM Modi’s leadership and the summit’s potential to bolster India’s entertainment sector. Singer Himesh Reshammiya praised the Prime Minister’s “fantastic vision,” while actor Nimrit Kaur described the summit as a “huge movement,” signaling India’s rise as a creative powerhouse on the world stage.
Veteran filmmaker Boney Kapoor expressed gratitude for the support extended by the Indian and Maharashtra governments, highlighting their role in making the event a success. He also commended the summit’s initiative to honor the victims of the recent Pahalgam terror attack.
