Kantara 1 Crosses ₹500 Cr Globally in 1st Week
New Delhi: The period-based action-drama “Kantara: Chapter 1,” starring and directed by Rishab Shetty, has captivated cinema lovers. It is a prequel to the 2022 superhit film Kantara, setting the story 1000 years before the first part.
The film was released on October 2, 2025, coinciding with Gandhi Jayanti and Dussehra, and has been a box office smash.
Production house Hombale Films announced on social media on October 9 that the film had grossed over ₹509.25 crore at the global box office in its first week.

"Kantara: Chapter 1" has also performed well in its Hindi dubbed version. It has become only the second Kannada film to cross the ₹100 crore mark in Hindi, after KGF: Chapter 2. The first film, Kantara, had grossed only ₹85 crore in Hindi.
Kantara Chapter 1 shatters All Box Office Records
The film is set in pre-colonial coastal Karnataka, where the story traces the roots of an ancient religious ritual called Bhuta Kola. The lead cast includes Gulshan Devaiah, Rukmini Vasanth, and Jayaram, along with Rishabh Shetty.
The film has surpassed several major releases of 2025. It is currently the fourth highest-grossing Indian film of 2025, behind Chhaava, Saiyaara, and Coolie. According to trade reports, the film has grossed ₹316 crore net in India in seven days. The Hindi version has earned ₹102 crore in Hindi alone.
In March 2024, it was announced that Amazon Prime Video would release a digital version of the film after its theatrical release. According to reports, a deal worth ₹125 crore has been struck for the OTT rights.
The film will be released first in four South Indian languages (four weeks after release), while the Hindi dubbed version will be made available eight weeks later—by the end of November.
