In a busy life, people often ignore their health, the effect of which gradually comes in the form of serious diseases. But do you know that your nails also tell about the condition and health of the body? Changes seen in nails can sometimes be a sign of lack of nutrition or major diseases.

According to a study by Clinical Dermatology Review, changes in the texture and color of nails can point to anemia, thyroid, diabetes, liver or kidney disease.

1. Nails turning white

If the nails appear too white, it is a sign of anemia, lack of nutrition or liver disease.

If the entire nail is white and the edges are dark, then it is called Terry's Nails, which may be associated with liver failure, kidney or heart disease.

2. Yellowing of nails

Sometimes nails turn yellow due to nail polish or fungal infection. But if the color remains yellow continuously, it is a sign of thyroid, diabetes or respiratory diseases.

In yellow nail syndrome, nails become thick, yellow and grow slowly, which may be associated with lymphatic or lung disease.

3. Lines on nails

If horizontal and diagonal lines appear on the nails, they are called Beau’s Lines.

These can appear after high fever, diabetes, zinc deficiency, injury or extreme stress.

4. Soft and bent nails

If the nails of the fingers become soft and spongy and start bending, then it is clubbing.

This may be associated with lack of oxygen in the body, lung disease, heart problems or inflammation of the intestines.

5. Frequent breakage of nails

If your nails are weak and breaking frequently, it can be a sign of thyroid, iron deficiency or lack of water in the body.

6. Dark stripes on the nails

If black or brown stripes appear from the bottom to the top of the nail, it can be subungual melanoma (a form of skin cancer). It should not be ignored at all.
