To be completed within five months and financed by the World Bank, the network would provide clean water via water taps to the 450 families, the state-owned media outlet said. The residents of Takhar province have little access to clean water, and many villagers used to fetch water from polluted basins and standing waters which caused illness to the people.

Similar projects have earlier been launched in several provinces to provide clean water to the people. Water scarcity is a major issue in the landlocked war-ravaged country, and Afghanistan has been focused on the construction of new water networks in the country to address the issue.
These projects involve building well fields, transmission lines, storage systems, canals, pipelines, and distribution networks, which have been backed by global bodies such as the World Bank and the Asian Development Bank.
The Taliban govt is particularly focused on the construction of canals in the more isolated areas, to divert river water to the more water-struggling regions, and provide them enough for drinking, daily use, and irrigation.
