New Delhi: US President Donald Trump, while speaking to reporters on Air Force One on Saturday (25 October 2025), said that he wants China to cooperate with America on the issue of Russia.
This statement has come at a time when tension between America and Russia regarding the Ukraine war has increased greatly. Recently, Washington has imposed new economic and political sanctions on Moscow, due to which relations between the two countries have further deteriorated.
Trump indicated that China is a major power, and if it supports the US on Russia, a strong step can be taken towards global peace.
President Trump is soon going to leave on his five-day Asia tour. His travels include Malaysia, Japan, and South Korea. This is said to be the longest foreign tour of his tenure so far.
He will attend the ASEAN summit starting in Kuala Lumpur, where leaders of several Asian countries will discuss regional security and economic cooperation.
White House Press Secretary Carolyn Levitt has confirmed that Trump will also attend the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit in Gyeongju, South Korea.
Top leaders of many countries, including America, China, Japan, and South Korea, will participate in this conference, where discussions will be held on global trade, investment, and regional stability.
Trump will also meet Chinese President Xi Jinping during this visit. The two leaders will discuss trade relations, US-China tensions, and Taiwan and Hong Kong issues.
Trump said that he has respect for Taiwan, and he will definitely discuss it, even if he does not travel there.
Trump and Xijinping likely to meet in ASEAN Summit on Thursday.
Additionally, he said that he will also raise the issue of the release of Hong Kong pro-democracy leader Jimmy Lai. Jimmy Lai, the founder of the "Apple Daily" newspaper, is currently jailed under Beijing's national security law.
Trump also said that he is fully prepared to meet North Korean leader Kim Jong Un during his Asia tour. He said he and Kim Jong Un already have a good relationship and that he would like to meet him in person if circumstances permit.
Trump's visit is being considered a major step towards strengthening America's active diplomacy and strategic interests in Asia and the Pacific region.
His statements indicate that America now wants to follow the path of both competition and dialogue with countries like Russia, China, and North Korea.
The results of the meetings held during this visit can play an important role in deciding the direction of global politics in the coming months.
