Washington DC: The White House has dismissed reports by Iranian state media claiming that Tehran and Washington had reached a draft framework agreement aimed at ending tensions in West Asia, calling the claims entirely false.

The controversy began after Iranian state television reported that the two countries were discussing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that allegedly included provisions for easing maritime restrictions and reducing military activity in the Gulf region.

White House Calls Report ‘Fabricated’

Responding to the report, the White House issued a strong denial and urged the public not to rely on claims circulated by Iranian state-controlled outlets.

In a statement posted on X, the White House said the reported document was “a complete fabrication” and asserted that no such agreement currently exists between the United States and Iran.

The administration further stressed that there was no finalised or near-finalised diplomatic arrangement related to Gulf security or military withdrawal.

What The Iranian Report Claimed

Iranian state media had claimed that the proposed framework involved the reopening of commercial shipping routes in the Strait of Hormuz and a possible reduction in US military presence near Iranian waters.

The report also suggested that Tehran could coordinate commercial maritime activity with regional partners, including Oman, under a broader de-escalation understanding.

Additionally, the report claimed that commercial traffic through the Strait of Hormuz could return to pre-conflict levels within weeks if the arrangement moved forward.

Strait Of Hormuz Remains Strategic Flashpoint

The Strait of Hormuz remains one of the world’s most critical maritime trade routes, carrying a substantial portion of global oil exports. Any disruption in the narrow waterway often impacts global energy markets and geopolitical stability.

The latest exchange comes amid heightened tensions in the region and ongoing diplomatic uncertainty involving Iran, the United States, and Gulf nations.

While speculation over backchannel negotiations continues, Washington’s latest response indicates that no official agreement has been reached at this stage.
