Tehran: Iran on Tuesday accused the United States of violating a recently announced ceasefire through what it described as “aggressive and illegal actions” in the Hormozgan region, home to the strategic Bandar Abbas port. The allegations come at a time when diplomatic efforts between the two sides are reportedly continuing through Pakistan-mediated channels.

In a statement issued by Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Tehran claimed that American military actions over the past 48 hours included “maritime piracy” targeting Iranian commercial vessels. Iranian officials alleged that these actions represented a direct breach of the ceasefire arrangement declared earlier this month.

The ministry strongly criticised Washington’s conduct, saying the incidents reinforced Iran’s long-standing distrust of the United States and its intentions in the region.

Iran Warns Against Further Escalation

Iran described the alleged actions as a violation of international law and the United Nations Charter. The statement specifically referred to Article 2 of the UN Charter, which prohibits the use of force against the territorial integrity or political independence of any state.

Tehran warned that it would respond firmly to any threat against its sovereignty. Iranian authorities said the country would not ignore what it called “acts of wickedness” and stressed that protecting national interests remained a top priority.

The remarks indicate rising tensions despite ongoing diplomatic engagement aimed at preventing further conflict in the region.

Diplomatic Efforts Continue Through Pakistan

The accusations surfaced even as diplomatic discussions between the two sides continue through mediation efforts reportedly facilitated by Pakistan. While neither Washington nor Islamabad has officially commented on the latest Iranian statement, the talks are believed to focus on reducing military tensions and reviving stalled negotiations.

At the same time, reports from Iran’s semi-official Tasnim news agency suggested that Tehran has not agreed to transfer its enriched uranium stockpile outside the country, an issue considered central to broader negotiations surrounding Iran’s nuclear programme.

Regional Tensions Remain High

The developments highlight the fragile nature of the current ceasefire environment in West Asia. Maritime security in the Gulf region, especially around the Strait of Hormuz, remains highly sensitive due to its importance for global oil shipments and regional trade routes.

The latest exchange of accusations is expected to add further strain to already tense US-Iran relations, even as diplomatic channels remain open.
