New Delhi: While countries around the world are worried about the heavy tariffs imposed by the US, Myanmar's military ruler, General Min Aung Hlaing, is looking at this tariff as an honor and opportunity. Recently, the US has announced a 40% tariff on Myanmar products, which will come into effect on August 1, 2025, reports Dynamite News correspondent.

This is the same Myanmar, which the US and the European Union have not yet recognized as an official government and on which many economic and diplomatic sanctions have been imposed. Despite this, General Hlaing is very excited about a formal letter sent by US President Donald Trump.

Reconsider sanctions

According to a report published in a government newspaper, Hlaing described Trump's letter as a symbol of "Myanmar's participation in the US economy" and presented it as global recognition. He urged the US to reconsider the sanctions imposed on Myanmar and keep in mind the common interests of both countries.

Praise for Trump

General Hlaing also offered to send a high-level delegation to the US for talks and praised Trump, calling him a "true patriot" and a "supporter of global peace."

Rigged 2020 US election

Hlaing supported Trump's claims of rigging the 2020 US election and said something similar had happened in Myanmar. While the truth is that the 2020 general election in Myanmar was considered free and fair, which was also acknowledged by international observers. Despite this, the military overthrew the democratic government on 1 February 2021 on the pretext of election fraud and arrested Nobel Peace Prize winner Aung San Suu Kyi.

Currently, Suu Kyi has been sentenced to 27 years in prison after a closed-door trial and is placed under house arrest.

Under the guise of Trump's letter, Hliang has also tried to send a message that Myanmar's military government is getting acceptance on the global stage. But experts believe that this is merely a propaganda strategy to divert attention from internal protests and international criticism.
