New Delhi: Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has said that the country will use all available military and defensive capabilities to protect its sovereignty. He stressed that Iran considers its actions to be within its legitimate right of self-defence following strikes by the United States and Israel.

Regional Outreach and Warning

Araghchi held phone conversations with counterparts in Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain, and Iraq. During these calls, he emphasised that Iran would defend its territorial integrity and reminded these nations of their responsibility to prevent the US and Israel from using their land or facilities to launch attacks against Iran.

European Union Calls for Restraint

Reacting to the escalating tensions, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said the EU has already imposed extensive sanctions on Iran. She urged all sides to exercise maximum restraint, protect civilians, and respect international law.

Mixed Global Reactions

Italy’s Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni expressed solidarity with Iran’s civilian population and reaffirmed calls for respect for civil and political rights. She also pledged consultations with allies to help reduce tensions.

Australia’s Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said Australia supports efforts to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons and voiced backing for the United States.

Meanwhile, Russia’s foreign ministry described the US and Israeli strikes as reckless and a violation of international law, calling instead for political and diplomatic solutions.

Earlier, a UK government spokesperson stated that Britain does not want to see the crisis escalate into a broader regional conflict and remains prepared to protect its interests.
