New Delhi: Israeli bombings in Iran's East Azerbaijan province have killed 30 military personnel and a rescue worker, the province's Governor, Bahram Sarmast, said.

According to Dynamite News correspondent, the bombardments, which started at dawn on Friday, have also injured 55 people at 19 various sites, a statement carried by the semi-official Tasnim news agency said on Saturday.

Among the facilities targeted was Tabriz Airport, which is one of the major logistics and transport facilities in the provincial capital. Video footage from the location featured thick black smoke pouring into the air.

Iranian media said other damage has been inflicted on nearby Shahid Fakouri military airbase and sections of the adjacent railway system. Early morning on Friday, Israel carried out a wave of simultaneous airstrikes against key areas all over the nation, including in the capital city, Tehran.

Iranian state media has reported that several top military commanders and key nuclear scientists were killed in the attacks. Iran has retaliated with barrages of ballistic missiles against Israeli military targets since Friday evening in response to the Israeli offensive.

Iran may be threatening Israel and its allies with a fatal attack, but since the start of the Gaza-Israel war, it has lost its strongest regional proxies—Hamas in Gaza and Hezbollah in Lebanon—for any significant retaliation.

However, another key proxy, the Houthi rebels in Yemen, have begun attacking Israel with multiple ballistic missiles. While Trump claims the escalation between Iran and Israel could be easily resolved, the two nations continue to exchange attacks.

Israel has signaled it will not back down, with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declaring that the recent strikes were minor compared to what Iran should expect in the coming days.

Meanwhile, Trump has echoed Netanyahu’s warnings, stating that Iran would face severe consequences if it targeted the U.S. He threatened that the full force of the U.S. military would respond with unprecedented destruction.
