New Delhi: India have suffered a setback in their ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 campaign, with off-spinner Shreyanka Patil being ruled out of the tournament due to an ankle injury. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) confirmed that leg-spinner Prema Rawat has been named as her replacement for the remainder of the competition.

The 23-year-old Patil sustained the injury while fielding during India’s match against the Netherlands on Wednesday. The ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Event Technical Committee has approved Rawat’s inclusion in the squad.

About Prema Rawat

Rawat, a promising young leg-spinner, earned her call-up after impressive performances for India A. She played a key role in India’s triumphant Women’s Asia Cup Rising Stars campaign, picking up eight wickets in five matches. The youngster also emerged as the joint-highest wicket-taker during India A’s tour of Australia last year, claiming seven wickets in just three matches.

Indian team led by Harmanpreet Kaur

The Indian team is being led by Harmanpreet Kaur, with Smriti Mandhana serving as vice-captain as the side continues its quest for a maiden Women’s T20 World Cup title.

Following Rawat’s promotion to the senior squad, the Women’s Selection Committee has reshuffled the India A squads for the upcoming England tour. Niki Prasad has been drafted into the India A T20 squad, while all-rounder Minnu Mani has been added to the One-Day setup.

The changes reflect India’s efforts to maintain squad balance at both senior and developmental levels as a busy international calendar continues.
