New York: US President Donald Trump addressed the United Nations General Assembly on Tuesday, using his speech to defend his administration’s approach to the Iran conflict and outline his foreign policy priorities ahead of meetings with several world leaders in New York.

During his address, Trump said he faces a 'big decision' regarding Iran, adding that a possible agreement could come after the US midterm elections.

Trump Highlights Pressure on Iran at UN Platform

Speaking before global leaders, Trump thanked the UN Security Council for supporting a resolution condemning what he described as Iran’s attacks on commercial shipping. He called for continued international pressure on Tehran and said the United States Navy had escorted more than 1 billion barrels of oil through the Strait of Hormuz.

Trump said oil movement through the strategic waterway had increased compared with the period following the start of the conflict. However, he indicated that major decisions regarding Iran’s future would depend on upcoming developments.

US President Says Iran’s Regional Influence Has Declined

Trump claimed that US military action had reduced Iran’s influence across the Middle East, saying Tehran no longer held the same position as before. He described Iran as a major supporter of terrorism and said the country’s regional power had been significantly affected.

Trump’s comments came as the conflict continues to attract international attention with diplomatic efforts facing challenges.

Trump To Hold Meetings With Global Leaders

Following his UN address, Trump is scheduled to meet Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. According to the White House, he will also participate in a trilateral signing ceremony related to a new Greenland security agreement. The diplomatic engagements come as world leaders discuss ongoing conflicts, security concerns and global stability.
